Artist Statement: The young oil painter Prachie Narain spent her childhood in India, Nepal and England before coming to the United States in 1994. With the frequent relocation of her early life, she developed a passion for exploring the energy of different people and different environments through drawing and painting. Among her chief influences are Claude Monet, Edvard Munch, Czech painter and color theorist Frantisek Kupka, Georgia O'Keeffe, and environmental artist Andy Goldsworthy. She currently lives in Somerville, Massachusetts. "I am completely in awe of the natural world: of rivers, trees, color, light, air. The organic randomness that is beautifully organized is beyond our capacity to comprehend, let alone create: the way that leaves grow, so uniquely but irrelevantly their own, the way they hang on to their branches and bristle in rhythm with the wind, the way they fall elegantly to the ground; the way they change the light and make it dance; their colors, their forms. Years ago when I was walking, I noticed that weeks after the leaves had fallen and been trampled on the sidewalks, when it seemed that nothing physical remained, there were still traces of them on the pavement, a record of their last shapes, their last days. There was something so fascinating, so precise in the marks they had left behind. This is what I explore in my painting, the spirit behind this sometimes glorious, sometimes melancholy natural world." Exhibitions/Awards: SOLO: JURIED: GROUP: PUBLICATIONS MEMBERSHIPS
